Twyla Lambert Clark

Fiber Artist & Maker

As a fiber artist Twyla finds inspiration in found items whether it be fabric to sew or a discarded wooden chair frame that needs a new bottom. She enjoys making many things like sewn note cards, woman’s accessories, woven kitchen pot holders; whatever the universe places in her path. Twyla also like to mend clothes, do alterations or sew products like pillows. Variety in the day to day seems to be the universe reaching out with challenges for her to solve.

Twyla’s journey

Mom was a production sewist. Dad was a high school chemistry teacher. My Pepe, was a weaver in the textile mills of Shirley, MA.

Girls Scouting was a way to try crafts, learn to pitch a tent and to sell (cookies.)

Barry Lapidus, owner of Tropical Design, gave me a job caring for tropical plant installations.

Metro Nashville Parks offered weaving classes in the arts building in Centennial Park.

An entry level job in pre-press, then positions for graphics arts service bureaus & commercial printers. I learned production, customer service, quality control, sales & marketing over countless print projects.

I found joy in the world of printing, still do.

Steve Norman III was a customer who became a valued friend and officiated at our wedding.

David McQuiddy III, hired me to be print sales rep. That opportunity changed my life.

Mary Skinner suggested we join Tennessee Association of Museums, giving us unique insight into Tennessee Museums & historic places.

Danielle McDaniel, Nashville’s formidable Clay Lady, has been a valued sounding board.

Hunt Nichols taught me details of high quality book binding.

Dave Lindner was that supportive plant manager who helped “make things happen” time and again.

Kelley McLaughlin taught me about paper; helping me to win projects.

“Women Helping Women” was the mantra for my “Girls Group”; started to educate graphic designers about manufacturing. Foil stamping taught by Fred Weisbrodt at McGraphics. Brad at Scott Laminating taught lamination techniques. Hunt Nichols (then at Bind Tech) taught us about bindery. Terri Hedges (then with Mailers Choice) taught mailing services. The members of this group became my clients, fellow hockey fans, friends and co-conspirators: Laura Deleot, Wendy Stamberger, Stephanie Simpkin, Deborah Doyle, Gerri Findley, Karen Cronin, Kelley McLaughlin, Terri Hedges, Mary Uhles, Natasha Tibbott, Jade Novak, Mary Skinner, Debbie Sanders, Linda Bordeaux, Christa Schoenbrodt, Lynn Vincent, Karla DePrez, Sonya Watson, Susan Hulme. We worked together to grow our careers, share information & became friends.

Miles Dickinson, another printer, always a friend, encouraged me as a peer.

Larry Paul assists us to growing our book & magazine business.

I appreciate all who have contributed to my career - thank you.
